Victorian cottage garden

Victorian cottage garden

A young professional couple wanted to be able to entertain friends and enjoy outdoor living in the small garden of their mid-terrace Victorian cottage.

We used reclaimed bricks and natural paving to complement the house and combined this with a traditional cottage garden planting scheme that would be easy to maintain but give a stunning effect for summer parties.

A large patio leading to curved wall seats provided the areas they needed for entertaining, eating and drinking, with a circular lawn edged in brick maximising the narrow space.

Award-winning design with flair and practicality

Award-winning design with flair and practicality

The Blenheim Palace Flower Show allowed us to demonstrate how you can combine stunning design with practical features, all within a small garden.

We integrated a hardwood deck with a Cedar-topped Cornish Slate wall and oval lawn. Striking slate paving contrasted with a curving stainless steel water feature to show off dramatic borders enhanced by reflective sculptures.

Feature trees of weeping birch and pleached Liquidamber provided structure and shade while marginal and aquatic plants complemented flowing grasses and bold flowering perennials.

Woodland garden gets new lease of life

Woodland garden gets new lease of life

A complete refurbishment and extension of their home prompted these clients to realise the potential of their extensive garden.

We surrounded the house with Sandstone paving and dry-stone effect retaining walls to create plenty of space for entertaining and enjoying the outdoors.

An elliptical water feature bordered by dramatic, colourful planting formed the centre piece of the garden and linked it to spacious formal lawns and woodland beyond.

Walling and water

Walling and water

The challenge here was to bring an informal cottage garden feel to a sloping site, while providing plenty of space for outdoor cooking for this family that was serious about entertaining.

We created a series of dry-stone effect walls in Cotswold stone with a wide set of curved steps in the centre to create access between two ponds to a large lawn at the top of the garden.

An oak framed pergola over a patio created a practical area for cooking and entertaining, which included a pizza oven, smoker, barbeque and plenty of oak work surfaces for food preparation.

A taste of Provence

A taste of Provence

Fond memories of holidays in the South of France and a love of outdoor entertaining provided the inspiration to re-model this established family garden.

We introduced curved, rendered walls with subtle lighting and brick detail alongside handmade clay pavoirs set into a Sandstone terrace.

Tropical and Mediterranean borders surrounded the kidney-shaped swimming pool while traditional flowering Cherry and Hydrangeas graced the front garden amidst giant boulders.
